The Nano V3 is an ATmega32p chip based microctroller. It features 22 digital I/O input pins including 6 PWM output pins, 8 Analog input pins , a 16 MHz ceramic resonator, a USB connection port, an onboard DC power jack, an ICSP header, and a microcontroller reset button.  It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a battery or an DC power source to get started. You can tinker with your Nano without worrying too much about doing something wrong, worst case scenario you can replace the chip for a few dollars and start over again.
